Avoid soda/soft drinks- Apart from the fact that these drinks lead to weight gain, they also increase sugar cravings. This means these drinks will cause your body to want even more sugar despite the fact that you just consumed 39 grams of sugar which is what a standard can of Coke contains.
Reduce the amount of sugar you use in your tea, coffee- Rome was not built in one day, so, you have to start by reducing the amount of sugar you use until you eventually stop using.
Substitute- If you are used to lots of sugar, you are already hooked to this habit. Due to the fact that you a sugar addict, you might suffer withdrawal symptoms if you try cutting it completely, this might work short term. However, you will go back to this bad habit eventually, so, try substituting sugar for honey, or rely on milk for that sugar high. This way, you satisfy the sugar monster in you without actually feeding it, thereby avoiding all the health complications it comes with.
Eat healthy snacks just before you go shopping- A research from Cornell University has found that snacking on something nutritious before supermarket shopping, like an apple, can actually encourage shoppers to purchase 25 percent more fruits and vegetables than they normally would. This way, you buy fewer sugary items for your home, and your belly.
Drink water- This has to become your mantra if you are going to cut back on sugar consumption successfully. Why? You may ask. This is because thirst and dehydration can often disguise themselves as hunger, thereby causing you to reach for sugar loaded foods like rice, bread, fast food and so on.
